Telephone Systems - Evolution of Technology

The telephone counts as one of mankind’s greatest inventions. The invention marks the time when people were able to talk to each other even across distances far beyond one’s expectations. It also marks the beginning of modern communications and the development of the telephone systems Brisbane.

In today’s urban centers, the system is the lifeblood of business. It may have undergone some low points in its existence, especially with the advent of the computers and the Internet. Up until the very latest of times, the Internet was predicted to be the major venue fro all forms of communications.

However, it had been proven that the telephone might not be easily replaceable at the moment because of its inherent value in immediacy, intimacy and warmth in a person-to-person communications, notwithstanding if it is a business deal or a personal conversation.

Definitions

Technically, the telephone and the whole system of telephony are broadly defined as a system of telecommunications where the phone is utilized as the main transmitting and receiving device. The communications is transmitting speech and other sounds between two points of space. These days, the technology does not use wires and cables anymore.

This is referred to as the modern technology where the transmission and receiving of data (voice, video, fax, others) are connected through the use of computers and integrated into the network system. These had been doing the function of phones aside from the own line of functions in relation to other things (commerce, entertainment, medicine, education and many other things) today.

Lastly, the integration of the telephone and computer-based telecommunications systems have seen the overlap of many other systems and procedures that things are difficult to distinguish these days. However, the telephone still stands as the better voice communications device and system these days.

Some terms

By tradition, the telephone structure comprised of telephone equipments and devices with the traditional business of devices communicating with one another. Given that the system will be here for sometime, there might be a need to refresh some of the basic terms used in today’s systems.

POTS is actually Plain Old Telephone Service, and is usually in reference to the older standard low speed and limited bandwidth analog service. This system had been servicing hundreds of years for most of households and business groups since then.

PSTN is the Public Switched Telephone Network, still in current use in most of the world. The old analog trunks and other parts of the systems are now already replaced entirely with digital technology which includes today’s cell phones. It is the main system that interfaces with POTS.

Finally, PBX/PABX means Private Branch Automatic eXchange, also known as a phone switch.  The main function of the switch is to route and interface with multiple internal phone extensions to the PSTN. Usually, this happens in an office where phone lines are still in analog.

The latest entry is VoIP or voice on internet protocol. It is easy to install and its use is dependent on the user having an Internet connection. The good part is that this new system is now integrated to the old telephone systems Brisbane and can work together.
